As I made my way through Yonkers, NY a mystical land of diversity and grittiness I found myself overwhelmed by the sheer magnitude of

places to explore. From historic landmarks to hidden gems, from bustling neighborhoods to quiet enclaves, this city has it all.

One of my favorite spots in Yonkers is the Untermyer Gardens (945 North Broadway), a lush oasis that boasts over 43 acres of gardens, water features, sculptures and architecture. Its like stepping into another world; one where nature reigns supreme and beauty abounds around every corner. The gardens are open yearround and free for visitors (although donations are greatly appreciated).

For those who want a taste of local history, head on over to the Hudson River Museum (511 Warburton Ave). This institution showcases everything from classic art exhibits to an interactive science center and even performances at their amphitheater overlooking the water. One exhibit not to be missed is The Color Of Music, which celebrates African American contributions in music featuring rare video footage with Duke Ellington jamming with his orchestra!

If youre looking for something quirky and offthebeatenpath, look no further than Ridge Hill Outdoor Shopping Center(1 Ridge Hill Blvd). While it may seem like your typical outdoor mall at first glance, theres more here than meets the eye! Keep your eyes peeled for strange installations such as giant heartshaped bench or mushroomshaped lighting fixtures.

But if you truly want an experience that screams Yonkers!, head on over to Dunwoodie Pizzeria (683 Yonkers Ave) .This pizza joint serves up some seriously delicious pies whether you prefer thin crust or deep dish but what sets them apart is their unique toppings...they have mac & cheese pizza folks!! And they dont skimp on portions either.

And lets not forget about Getty Square (South Broadway between McLean Ave & Main St) , a vibrant neighborhood that truly embodies the hustle and bustle of Yonkers. You can find everything from small momandpop shops to trendy cafes to large department stores all in one place.

No matter where you go in Yonkers, theres something for everyone. This city is diverse, historic, quirky, and most importantlyauthentic with endless opportunities to explore its hidden corners. It may not be the first destination that comes to mind when planning a trip but trust me, give it a chance and youll leave with memories (and mac & cheese pizza!) that will last a lifetime.
